Loot by Joe Orton

Directed by Brendan Harrington

Our very first production, wow!  In retrospect it seems like such an odd choice to debut with, especially since we've done nothing like it since.

A dark (sort of) farce from the sixties with very near the knuckle jabs at the police and religion. It was a ballsy choice to introduce ourselves to an audience of mostly our friends, family and members of our local operatic society.

I remember hiding behind the set on the very first night, waiting for the first laugh - praying we actually got a first laugh. There was genuine fear of the possibility we were going to make absolute fools of ourselves and die on our backsides.  Luckily, our director knew the key to the show was to play it absolutely straight and our first laugh came in after the first three lines.  Many many more followed.
