Blood Brothers by Willy Russell

Directed by Scott Bellas

I was done with theatre for a while - indefinitely, I was saying.

After numerous casting problems over the past several shows and then having to cancel both our Wakefield Drama Festival performance of Shakers and our revisit of The Accrington Pals for the same reasons, I decided to have a breather and put Bite My Thumb on hiatus we for a while. I needed the rest and was unsure if I'd ever return.

Three days later I got an email from Scott Bellas of Northern Spark proposing this coproduction ... I immediately buckled on my dramatic decision and a lovely bond between our two companies was created.

I'm so glad I went back on my decision - the show was a big success with the highest quality of cast.  It set new benchmarks for both companies and led to an era of collaboration which still continues to this day.

Scott did away with the obvious and staged the show in a Brechtian style that distanced us from the musical as much as possible (something rarely seen - other companies almost seem to try and apologise for it not being the musical by aping it as closely as possible).
